Rehabilitation through Music!

Music is considered as a Universal language. Music is a vast topic, with too many perspectives to it. Music has never been boring to anyone, nor has it been out of fashion or trend. Music is the only real ‘evergreen’ subject known till date.

Reasons

Music has many reasons, purposes to be aimed for! Music is basically used to express emotions in a different way. We use it as a soothing way to calm our tensed minds, to calm down a crying baby, to reduce the stress levels of a person,

to elevate your mood, to make you dance, to make you feel happy, or even to make you cry; music has different forms serving different purposes.

Rehab Centres

Did you know that music is used a therapy in many rehab centres, to bring back the person back to the normal track? To reduce their anxiety levels, to distract their minds, to induce better-thinking process, sometimes to even treat speech problems in patients. Speech and hearing therapies also use music as one mode to aid the patients. This is the amazing face of the music, to touch many areas of a person’s lives; emotional aspect, verbal, physical, spiritual.

Rehab Coordinate Together

Music therapists and the other disciplinary rehabs coordinate together to accomplish an individual’s goals in life. They work in different forms, for acute treatment or even long term care.

We advise that patients or their families should see the music therapy as an additional therapy to the existing physical and mental treatments that the patient is undergoing and not an alternative to it.

Physical therapy and music:

Music has been found very successful in managing the pain of paediatric patients and also in improving the life quality of many patients suffering from neurological conditions, like Alzheimer’s disease, brain damage, brain fever, stroke, and even forms of dementia.

Physical Movements

Such patients are provided rhythmic beats to encourage and support their physical movements. There is a new auditory stimulation that employs the auditory rhythm as a timekeeper to synchronise the required movements in patients. This has been a neurologic music therapy intervention that aims at curing ailments through music in a much faster way.

For example, if a person injured with stroke is trying to walk down the aisle, appropriate music rhythmic beat is provided to entertain him and also encourage him to take further more steps.
The same topic is under research at the NY University, to see if the physical and music therapy can be introduced together at the rehab centres for stroke patients, for an hour to Dealing with Prescription Drug Addiction - Rehab Finder or two to help them recover faster and better.
